TRAUMA IS NOT JUST IN YOUR HEAD...

Trauma is in your body. Generally, when you experience something threatening or stressful, your body physiologically responds by activating a primal protection system. Your heart rate increases, breath becomes short and shallow, eyes dilate to scan for danger, digestion shuts off, muscles tense, blood rushes to your arms and legs, and your body is flooded with a cascade of stress hormones designed to mobilize you in the face of danger.
 
These natural bodily responses are designed to be temporary. However, traumatized bodies can get stuck in survival states which can result in chronic fatigue, pain, muscle tension, depression, anxiety, digestive issues, insomnia, and more. Beyond mobilized patterns of fight or flight, we can also get stuck in protective patterns of freeze, fawning, immobilization, and dissociation.

To effectively resolve trauma, it's important to address not only what is psychological, but also what is physiological.

LIVE LECTURES AND Q&A

There are seven, 90-minute live-virtual lectures, which take place weekly on Tuesdays at 12:30pm PST. There are also two 60-minute live-virtual Q&A Sessions, which take place on Friday. Lectures are recorded if you're unable to attend live. You will have access to the recordings for 150 days from the course start date.

SOMATIC PRACTICES

There are seven, 90-minute live-virtual somatic practice sessions, which take place on Thursdays at 12:30pm PST. These sessions include TRE®, vagal toning practices, breathing techniques, yoga, and self-applied touch to help support nervous system regulation. You will have access to the recordings for 150 days from the course start date. 

COURSE RESOURCE PORTAL

Receive access to an online course resource library that includes pre-recorded lectures on the polyvagal theory, somatic practices to support self-regulation and vagal tone, and downloadable guided audio practices. Access to the portal will be available for 150 days from the course start date. 

DOWNLOADABLE WORKBOOKS

Throughout the 7-weeks, you'll receive downloadable course worksheets that include journal prompts, Alchemy Action Steps, and mind-body exercises to support you on your healing path.

Meet Your Guide


ALOHA, I'M LIZ. A SOMATIC COACH, YOGA TEACHER, TRE PROVIDER, SSP PROVIDER AND NERVOUS SYSTEM EDUCATOR.

When I was five years old, my family lost everything we owned in a flood. We had to flee our home in the middle of the night by boat. The trauma left an indelible impact on my developing nervous system, teaching me at an early age that I wasn't safe in my own home. 

As an adult, this feeling of danger was reinforced, albeit in a different form, when I ended up in several abusive relationships. Home never felt safe. I never felt safe. 

I didn't trust myself or those around me. I was hypervigilant, anxious, angry, and felt deep shame for feeling so out of control. I had constant nightmares and panic attacks and was later diagnosed with panic disorder and agoraphobia. 

When I learned that my rage, panic and self-sabotaging behaviors were all ways my body was trying to survive, it gave me permission to let go of the shame and pain I was holding and opened up the space for healing, connection and transformation. 

Today, I help others reclaim their own safety and healing using somatic tools and practices from a polyvagal perspective.

WEEK 1

Navigating Your Nervous System & The Neurobiology of Trauma

Learn about the neurobiology of trauma from a polyvagal perspective and how trauma impacts the body and mind. Learn about the hierarchy of the Autonomic Nervous System and how different physiological states influence our behaviors, emotions, sensations and thoughts.

WEEK 2

The Science of Safety

Learn about neuroception and explore ways to create an embodied sense of safety in your nervous system. Learn tools to help you shift your nervous system out of chronic patterns of protection (survival defenses) and begin moving toward patterns of connection, resilience and wholeness.

WEEK 3

Wired to Survive

Learn about the seven main survival responses and how these survival responses may be unconsciously impacting your daily life. Learn how to identify triggers and meet your adaptive responses with radical compassion. Learn somatic practices to begin discharging nervous system activation while offering your body safe ways to complete built-in survival responses to help you metabolize stored stress, tension and trauma.

WEEK 4

Self-Regulation and the Power of the Vagus Nerve

Explore the powerful role the vagus nerve plays in regulating our health and behavior and why it is arguably the most important nerve in the body. Develop tools to improve your vagal tone and heart rate variability. Learn a powerful somatic practice called TRE® (Tension and Trauma Releasing Exercises) to help you physically release tension, stress and trauma and support your nervous system in moving toward balance and self-regulation.

WEEK 5

Co-Regulation and Creating Healthy Boundaries

Learn how to feel into your body to identify the difference between a co-regulator and a co-dysregulator. Explore embodied practices to help you create and maintain healthy boundaries and support your nervous system in building capacity for safety, trust and connection.

WEEK 6

Design Habits to Support Your Healing

Begin putting all the knowledge you have learned over the previous weeks together by learning a research-backed method of behavior change that will empower you to turn the tools from this course into new healthy habits that stick.  

WEEK 7

Integration and Embodied Living

This final week shares ideas for embodied living in a polyvagal-informed way. It is a space for reflection and integration. Ask questions about your own healing process, get clear on course concepts, celebrate your wins and explore how to carry this work forward to build a safer and more inclusive communities.

This course was the definition of what I needed and yet didn't know existed. The tools provided a monumental shift for me. Honestly, I had started to think that forward movement would never come but this course made me realize it is in fact very possible immediately. I don't think I've ever felt such a safe environment or just carried in the way that you did. At a time when my world felt rocked and survival mode and PTSD kept kicking into high gear, I've been able to use many of the things you've shared to bring balance back into perspective.
