Calming Lavender Tea Latte

Do you struggle with anxiety, restlessness, or have trouble sleeping? Soothe your mind and body with this delicious lavender tea latte recipe created by my dear friend Elise Museles (elisemuseles.com), chef, author, and certified eating psychology coach.  

Lavender has been used in a variety of cultures as a natural remedy for anxiety. While it has been traditionally used as folk medicine, several scientific studies have shown that lavender can help improve associated symptoms of anxiety disorder, including restlessness and disturbed sleep. Lavender was also shown in studies to help improve mood and reduce psychological distress.

The combination of steeping the culinary lavender in coconut milk creates a subtle tea that you can sip as a way to unwind before bed or enjoy whenever you need a relaxing moment to soothe your mind and body.

* Serves 1

Ingredients

1¼ cups coconut milk (almond and cashew milk work well, too!)
2 teaspoons culinary lavender (available at Wholefoods or you can buy online at retailers like Amazon)
splash of vanilla
2 teaspoons raw honey (or sweetener of choice to taste)
Pinch of salt
2 teaspoons coconut oil (for maximum nutrient absorption)

NOTE: Add a Medjool date to the blending process in place of honey, if preferred.

OPTIONAL FLAVORINGS:
¼ teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon fresh ginger

Method

Add coconut milk to a small pot. Heat until warmed through. Turn off the heat and add the culinary lavender to the pot. Cover and let steep for 10 minutes. Pour the liquid through a fine mesh strainer. In a blender, add the lavender-infused nut milk, honey (or sweetener of choice), vanilla, and pinch of salt. Blend until smooth. Return to the pot and gently heat, making sure not to boil. Once heated through, mix in the coconut oil and whisk. Add additional sweetener if desired. Pour into a mug for a relaxing experience!
